Richard Juergens, 2023 Hall of Fame Inductee
Richard “Dick” Juergens
Dick began in the industry working at the National Life of Vermont, the Harris Trust and Savings Bank, and Pacific Life. Dick joined Frank S Phillips Mortgage Corporation in 1978 as President and was tasked with taking a three-person mortgage department, recapitalizing it into a new mortgage company, and growing that company back to prominence in the Mid-Atlantic market. Within several years Phillips Mortgage became one of the top producers for New England Life.
Between 1990 and 2000, Phillips continued to grow with a staff of 12 people and offices in Richmond and Charlottesville VA. Production was close to 1 billion dollars per year. During that time, Dick was elected President of MBAMW in 1998 and received the CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker) designation as a Master (testing in both Commercial and Residential).
Between 2000 and 2010, Dick stepped aside as President of Phillips and continued in the production role. He was an instructor in commercial real estate for the School of Mortgage Banking.
In January of 2022, Phillips was sold to BWE (Bellwether Enterprises) of Cleveland, a larger version of Phillips with a national reach and direct accounts with Fanny and Freddie. At the time of the sale, Phillips became the largest office in their system, lending close to two billion dollars annually.
In addition to his accomplishments in mortgage banking, Dick helped start Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Dunn Loring, VA; he started the Club Crew Team at Langley High School in McLean, VA; has been the President of Washington DC Kiwanis Club and the Current President of Kiwanis Foundation of Washington DC.
