MBA/MW's extensive lobbying efforts in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia are designed to maintain a favorable business climate for our members and the homebuying public at large. MBA/MW works alongside regulators and community leaders to remain at the forefront of legislative and regulatory efforts. Our lobbying efforts in Maryland and Virginia, combined with those of respective state MBAs, have helped defeat several bills which might have had a negative impact on the mortgage banking industry in those jurisdictions. The Association provides a forum for members from the Washington metropolitan area to profit from educational programs and events designed to keep the mortgage industry professional on top of the latest trends in the industry. In addition to several topic-specific educational seminars held throughout the year, this Association sponsors a full day residential Fall Conference and an annual Income Property Seminar with nationally recognized speakers. MBA/MW's members are regularly involved in extensive community outreach efforts throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The Association works in partnership with the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) to sponsor homeownership education seminars to first time homebuyers, candidates of affordable lending programs and individuals who may currently own a home but need a refresher on the homebuyer process. Seminars have been presented since 1996 to over five hundred individuals. Similar programs are also held in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
